Media ReleaseCLP gives Territorians more chances to snap up a rec fishing grant31 March 2025 The Finocchiaro CLP Government is delivering more support for recreational fishing with the launch of the first round of the 2025 Northern Territory Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme. Minister for Recreational Fishing Gerard Maley said the grants would provide funding for smaller-scale recreational fishing initiatives that grow opportunities across the Territory. “Recreational fishing is a key part of the Territory’s lifestyle, contributing $144 million annually to our economy and attracting tourists from across the globe,” said Mr Maley. “These grants are designed to support not-for-profit organisations in creating new opportunities for the community and ensuring that recreational fishing remains a significant part of life in the Northern Territory." Our government is committed to restoring the unique Territory lifestyle, and this investment supports both the economy and recreational fishing opportunities right across the NT. The first round of the 2025 NTRFGS offers grants of up to $15,000, with a total of $100,000 available for smaller-scale projects. Eligible organisations are encouraged to apply for projects that support the recovery of at-risk reef species in the Greater Darwin region, initiatives with high levels of financial or in-kind contributions, and those that involve partnerships between not-for-profit organisations and Local Government Councils. “Projects that contribute to the sustainability of our fishing resources and promote the recreational fishing sector will have a lasting impact on local communities and the broader Territory economy,” said Mr Maley. The second round of funding will open in August 2025, providing grants of up to $75,000 for larger infrastructure projects aimed at expanding recreational fishing opportunities across the Territory. Applications for Round 1 open today, 31 March 2025, and will close on 28 April 2025. The Finocchiaro CLP Government has committed to 2025 being a year of action, certainty and security.
