Kāti rā, huri hoki ki a ngāi tātou ngā waihōtanga o rātou, kei konei e pūtohe ana kia whakatīnana ai o rātou moemoeā. Tēnā koutou, tēnā rā tātou.

I recall vividly my first ever conversation with Wira. It was about August 1985, just after he had very publicly resigned from his role at Civil Defence. I basically cold-called him to discuss the notion of a film about the Māori Battalion. We jousted. Shall we just say, I left the conversation wiser! Neither of us could have imagined that less than ten years later I’d have the great pleasure to work with his very talented daughter, Ainsley.

Wira also has a strong connection with Te Māngai Pāho. In the early 2000s Te Māngai Pāho encountered some challenges. In May 2003, Hon Parekura Horomia appointed Wira the Chair of Te Māngai Pāho, with the instruction to fix it! In his brief two year period between 2003-2005, Wira successfully led the organisation through a period of rebuilding and consolidation. We are hugely grateful for his lasting contribution to Te Māngai Pāho.

EOI for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori
This EOI is seeking innovative new ideas to promote te reo Māori to a wide audience. The primary focus is to strengthen the engagement of wider Aotearoa and so initiatives that target a broad receptive audience will be preferred. The potential reach of the initiative will be an important selling point and those initiatives that have multi-platform support or opportunities will have an advantage. Read the EOI document here.

Te Māngai Pāho, with the support of Te Puni Kōkiri, is prepared to allocate up to $300,000 (plus GST) of funding for this project. Read the RFP here.

Waiata Hou: 'Te Aroha Mauroa' - MOHI

Following his debut single ‘E Kii’ in 2021, MOHI (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa) is now releasing his second single ‘Te Aroha Mauroa’, ahead of his upcoming debut EP ‘Moments’.

'Te Aroha Mauroa' has an organic instrumental sound, with the help of producer Dan Martin, MOHI's guitar playing is part of the track itself. It also focuses on bringing his exceptional voice to the forefront to showcase a very special vocal talent.

“I hope that when people listen to it, it takes them back to a memory - of childhood sweethearts, or even a more recent love. To the moment when they felt that urge to take the plunge and go for love. I hope it brings joy to whoever is listening to it.”
