Government resources to help seafood exporters

The STAG website now includes a link to the Federal Department of Agriculture’s Manual of Importing Country Requirements (MICoR).

MICoR is the go-to guide for understanding regulatory and technical requirements to export Australian seafood to almost any overseas market.

Government briefings

A recording of Austrade’s Japan and Korea Agri-food Exportersupdate is available here.

The briefing was broad, covering COVID impacts on food service and consumer habits, the continuing emphasis on clean, green, and provenance (especially for Japan), and processed and packaged (especially for South Korea). The briefing does not address the seafood sector specifically, except to note that rock lobster tariffs for South Korea have been eliminated under the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement.

A recording of Austrade’s UK-Europe Market Update for Agri-food Exporters webinar is now available here.

The US and Canada Market Update was held this morning (Thursday 3 June). Seafood is one of Austrade’s top three priorities for the North American markets, meaning exporters should be well-supported by the government when investigating new opportunities in the region.

An interesting opportunity raised in the briefing was targeting US west coast ethnic Chinese communities for sales of abalone and potentially other premium seafood exports. These niche markets are larger than some might expect.

We will bring you a link to the recording when it becomes available.
