BOSSI Examination Outcomes October 2024

Results from the Board Examinations for Land Surveying are provided below.

 

Certificates of Competency

As a result of all BOSSI examinations conducted in 2024, 18 land surveying candidates earned their Certificate of Competency.

Congratulations to the following surveying candidates who earned their Certificate of Competency following the October exams; Andrew Conolly, Damien Darmody, Blake Edwards, Mitchell Parkins, Bruce Perry, Andrew Watson, Chen Yang, Jiahao Zhang.

 

Presentation Ceremony & Award Winners 

BOSSI hosted its Presentation Ceremony for 2024 on Friday 29 November at the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel. 

We acknowledge and thank the Meritorious Surveyors for their contributions to the profession and NSW during their careers and wish them all the best for the next chapter in their lives. Congratulations to the 18 land surveyors who received their Certificate of Competency and congratulations to the examination award winners: 

  • Angelo Beretta - Surveyor-General’s Prize - sponsored by the Office of the Surveyor General and the Geospatial Council of Australia for the best overall candidate surveyor who received their Certificate of Competency in 2024.
  • Kristi Plavsic - The Barr Prize - sponsored by the Institution of Surveyors NSW for the best result in the Rural Cadastral assessment.
  • Angelo Beretta - The Neil Ryan Memorial Award - sponsored by the Institution of Surveyors NSW for the best result in the Urban Cadastral assessment.
  • Dale Brazier - The Harvey Prize - sponsored by the Association of Consulting Surveyors NSW for the best result in the Town Planning assessment.
  • Kristi Plavsic - The A Allen Consulting Surveyors Prize - sponsored by the Association of Consulting Surveyors NSW for the best result in the Strata & Community Title assessment.
  • Michael Martin  - The Augustus Alt Prize - sponsored by the Association of Consulting Surveyors NSW for the best result in the Engineering Design assessment.
  • Andrew Conolly - Staff Surveyors Association Award - sponsored by the Association of Public Authority Surveyors for the best overall candidate receiving their certificate of competency for the calendar year. 
 
 

Expression of Interest - Emerging Surveyor Advisor   

We have a unique opportunity for a recently (within the past 5 years) registered surveyor to become our next emerging surveyor advisor (previously known as young surveyor advisor).

The role will allow the successful incumbent to advocate on behalf of emerging surveyors, influence the strategic direction of BOSSI and be involved with decision making. Commitments include participating in 5 board meetings a year (mixture of Teams and face-to-face), attending the annual Kurri Kurri workshop and contributing to the training committee.

Applications need to include a copy of your resume with a 1 page cover letter detailing the relevant skills and experience you bring to the Board and outline your vision for the future of the profession.

Surveying & Spatial Information Regulation 2024 

The new Surveying & Spatial Information Regulation 2024 has now been published on the NSW Legislation website: https://legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/pdf/asmade/sl-2024-605

The date of commencement of the Regulation will be 1 March 2025. Any survey commencing after 1 March 2025 will be required to comply to the new Surveying & Spatial Information Regulation 2024.

The 2025 BOSSI Calendar of Events has been finalised and is now available on the BOSSI website.

 
 

Discipline Summary

BOSSI has recently finalised the investigation and determined subsequent disciplinary outcomes following a complaint made against a Registered Land Surveyor (RLS).

As a result of the investigation the Board determined the surveyor was guilty of professional incompetence with the following disciplinary action put in place:

  • Under Section 12(1)(a) of the Act, the surveyor was required to attend a disciplinary meeting with the President of the Board, in the presence of one other Board member. 
  • Under Section 12(1)(a) of the of the Act, the surveyor must undertake an ethics course, following which they must submit a report to BOSSI reflecting on their actions and the importance of ethics in surveying.
