Prepare for up to 9 weeks of night closures

We would like to give you the heads up that up to nine weeks of SH2 Remutaka Hill night closures will begin next month to carry out urgent repairs to a challenging slip on Remutaka Hill.

The slip which occurred earlier this month is severe and requires immediate action to stabilise the slip and build a retaining wall to protect the road. The slip is at one of the road’s narrowest sections. Because of the work involved, the equipment needed to do the work and to keep workers and the public safe, the road will have to be closed.

Details of closures

• Closures begin Monday, 7 October to early December
• Closures are Sunday to Thursday nights, 9 pm – 4 am. No work on Friday and Saturday nights
• The work site will be open to one lane under stop/go traffic management 24/7, so please prepare for delays during the day too

Escorted crossings

We are only able to accommodate one crossing per direction for these closures. This will be at midnight at both Featherston and Hutt. Bookings can now be made online with NZTA Wellington Transport Alliance using this link:
