Night works south of roundabout tomorrow night

Night works are programmed between 7pm - 6am tomorrow night, Thursday 5 November.

The team will be installing new barriers south of the roundabout to join in to the Otaika bridge barriers.

SH1 will be reduced to a single lane between the roundabout and Oaks Road with stop/go traffic control and a temporary speed limit of 30km/hr.

Pavement testing will also be undertaken while the traffic management is in place overnight.

Pavement works north of the roundabout this month

Shaping of the new section of highway north of the roundabout, including the tie in into the existing SH1, will continue through mid-November.

Road sealing is programmed for the week commencing 24 November with the traffic shift onto the new section (before the passing lanes), planned for the last week of November.

The traffic will be shifted during the day (after the morning peak) and a date for this will be communicated in mid-November. Also occurring near the roundabout, the new quarry road at Wilson Training Centre is almost finished and being prepared for sealing.

Pavement sealing is planned for the end of the month but, due to the location, won't have any impact on road users.

Portland Road update

Nightworks

Nightworks are planned for Sunday 15 November to install a culvert under Portland Road between the intersection with SH1 and the turnaround facility at 5 Portland Road.

Between 7pm and 6am, traffic on Portland Road will be reduced to a single lane with stop/go control and a temporary speed limit of 30km/hr.

Asphalting of the Portland Road intersection will also occur at night and is currently scheduled over five nights in early December.

Further details will be provided mid-November, once the asphalting dates have been confirmed.

New lighting

New lighting will be installed at the Portland Road intersection at the end of November. Light poles will be placed either side of the new turnaround facility, either side of the intersection and along SH1.

Turnaround facility

The new turnaround facility at 5 Portland Road is almost complete with kerbing to be installed mid-November. Once complete, the facility will provide for safer turning movements for residents along SH1 who currently cross the centreline to access their properties.

We encourage drivers to use the new turnaround facility on Portland Road (and the new roundabout at Loop Road), as a safer alternative to turning right into and out of driveways.
