Cotton Australia Board visits the Macquarie Valley

The Cotton Australia Board visited the Macquarie Valley this week to meet with growers and hear about local issues firsthand. The trip included a lunch at the Narromine Irrigation Scheme to see the results of recent infrastructure projects delivering efficiency gains as an alternative to buybacks, an update on water issues from Macquarie River Food and Fibre, and a rundown on the Macquarie Marshes “Burrima” property from local grower Tony Wass.

APVMA Renews Tebuconazole in Cotton

The APVMA has extended the minor use permit (PER82660) which allows the use of tebuconazole to control Alternaria Leaf Spot in cotton. This permit has been in force since 2016 and is restricted to cotton grown in NSW only. Tebuconazole can be applied at 440 mL/ha as a preventative treatment for Alternaria. A maximum of two applications is permitted per crop. Tebuconazole may not be used less than 42 days prior to harvest.

Khapra beetle

Khapra Beetle detection

Khapra beetle has been detected in imported nappy products and referred to DAFF. While this pest does not affect cotton, it is a serious threat to stored grain and could cause major issues if established in Australia. If you find something report it immediately to Report a pest or disease concern or by calling 1800 798 636.
