Thank you, On Thursday 25 July our Chief Executive, Michele Moran, completed a 13.5 mile walk between each of the Trust’s mental health inpatient units to raise money for Trust Charity, Health Stars. Every year Michele takes on a ‘CEO Challenge’ which stretches her physically and mentally to raise funds for our Trust charity. Thanks to your incredible support, Michele has already raised a fantastic £8350 for Health Stars this year. This amazing contribution will help enhance Trust services for both staff and patients in our community. Donations are still coming in, and every contribution makes a real difference. If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, or if you'd like to contribute further, you can still do so! To donate, simply visit our Just Giving page. On completion of her challenge, Michele Moran said, “It was tough, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Seeing the teams welcoming me at each of the inpatient units really spurred me on. And thank you to all those who joined me at intervals on the walks. I am delighted by how much we have raised for Health Stars and I know that every penny will be spent on improving experiences for both our staff and our patients.” Interested in staying up-to-date with the latest news from the Trust? We regularly upload news stories to our Trust's website, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. On Thursday 25th July we hosted our Summer Showcase in the Lecture Theatre at Trust HQ. The event saw services from across the Trust come together to showcase over twenty stalls and exhibitions of the outstanding work that is taking place every day to improve patient care. Ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June 2024, the Fitzwilliam Ward at Malton Hospital hosted one of their patients as he was presented with the Legion D’honneur medal for his involvement in the D-Day landings. The ward is run by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, and staff, along with the patient’s family and a number of officials came together to award George Jackson of Welburn this prestigious honour. At the age of 20, Sergeant George Jackson was among the first wave of soldiers landing on the beaches of Normandy with his Royal Engineers regiment and received this medal for his part in the liberation of France during the Second World War. Now aged 100, George is still able to remember the events 80 years ago, but did not speak about his experiences until 2014. Our Trust is delighted to share that our services have been shortlisted across four Nursing Times Award categories. These awards bring together the nursing community and shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession. Michele Moran, our Trust’s Chief Executive, said, “We are thrilled that we have been shortlisted in four categories at this year’s Nursing Times Awards. These prestigious awards celebrate the very best in nursing across the NHS and being shortlisted is testament to the hard work displayed by our nursing colleagues every day across our Trust.” Friends and Family Test The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback. Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment. 90.08% of respondents thought that they were involved in their care and listened to at Market Weighton Practice in June. "I felt listened to and reassured." Bridlington has a registered GP population of over 41,000 patients. Although the East Riding of Yorkshire overall has relatively good health outcomes, there remain pockets of deprivation and these are most densely concentrated in the Bridlington area. The town demonstrates several challenges. These challenges include: an ageing population with lots of people of retirement age; difficulties in recruitment in health and care jobs; pockets of significantly low-income levels; higher levels of substance misuse; limitations on transport to access surrounding areas. To help inform the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) strategy we are hosting a short survey to understand the community’s thoughts and feelings around current services and what they feel is important for people’s health and wellbeing. The closing date for this survey is Friday 30th August 2024. Keeping You Well At the heart of community healthcare, GP surgeries and the healthcare professionals working within them play a crucial role in keeping us well. Engagement Opportunities Co-production Opportunities The Trust has several ways in which you can get involved in Trust activities, as shown here. If you would like more detailed information on any of these involvement opportunities, please take a look at our Patient and Carer Experience Training Programme. This training programme can be accessed by visiting NHS Humber Recovery and Wellbeing College (humberrecoverycollege.nhs.uk) Humber Youth Action Group (HYAG) Do you know of any young people that might like to help us shape and improve our services at Humber through co-production? If so, please encourage them to join HYAG where young people aged 11-25 come together and tell us their thoughts, ideas and opinions about our services - they are truly making a difference. By joining, young people can interview new staff members, design new websites and marketing materials, develop their C/V, make new friends, and understand how the NHS is ran and funded. We understand joining a new group can be scary, that's why our Engagement Manager and Assistant for Children's Services can meet young people before choosing to join to ease any anxiety that they may have and answer any questions before their first meeting. If you would also like to bring any co-production projects or ideas to the group or need help from the HYAG, please email Bethia (Engagement Manager) at bethiadennis@nhs.net or Flick (Engagement Assistant) at felicity.hague@nhs.net. I started my career as a graphic designer, but soon found my true passion in working with young people. This led me into education, first at a further education college and then in leadership roles at a secondary school. It was during this time that I became aware of systemic inequalities affecting young people. This inspired me to focus on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and in 2019, I took on a dedicated EDI role with Humber. I currently lead the EDI agenda, addressing issues like unconscious bias and promoting accountability for inclusive practices. This experience motivated me to stand as a staff governor, aiming to be an inclusive voice on the Council of Governors. John Duncan, Staff Governor I've also held several volunteer positions that have enriched my perspective. I served as a councillor on an East Riding of Yorkshire Parish Council and on the national council of the English Schools Football Association, where I helped develop a five-year EDI strategy. Additionally, I was a governor at Hull College during a crucial period of leadership transition, working closely with senior leaders on strategic initiatives. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing competitive chess, and writing. I've published articles on EDI and maintain an equality blog. I’ve also authored two non-fiction books about creating inclusive workplaces. Recently, I started writing a military thriller novel, which I began during the COVID lockdown.
