LETTER

Hello and happy Friday,

VERY EXCLUSIVE

How many big names of contemporary fashion fit in one sentence? Let’s see: photographer PAUL KOOIKER and stylist ROBBIE SPENCER shot a brilliant series of BOTTEGA VENETA menswear by LOUISE TROTTER on supermodel LEON DAME. It’s in our current issue (p. 136–145) and here online, but not this photo above, which is an exclusive outtake, just for you!

DYKE ZINE

Idea Books, that amazing vintage books and magazine dealer from London, just published a facsimile reprint of KUTT magazine, the legendary dyke sister to our brother magazine BUTT, of which three highly sought-after issues appeared in the early 2000s. (Above, cover of No. 2, Summer 2002, by COLLIER SCHORR.) ■ This limited-edition reprint is flying off the shelves but you should be able to pick one up at ASS BOOK FAIR in Paris, next weekend. The team from BUTT will be there too, so come say hi. (5-7 June, Palais de Tokyo. With a whole dedicated BUTT afternoon on Sunday the 7th.)

MARGIELA FOR SALE AND FOR FREE

Only weeks after his series of Japanese gallery shows (queues and queues around the block), artist and fashion legend MARTIN MARGIELA has just announced an auction of items from his personal archive of fashion artefacts. ■ His original desk telephone! His white lab coat! Books! Photos! The HERMÈS double watch strap prototype! ■ The sale is scheduled for 9 July through Maurice Auction, Paris. A catalogue will be available soon, and viewing days will take place in Paris, times and location still TBC. ■ One thing that won’t be for sale, but that we are happy to give away a rare copy of, is an issue of Fantastic Man No. 32. For this AW 2020/21 issue, MARGIELA submitted an incredible 10-page visual essay on the theme of ‘hair’ (dedicated to his dad, uncles and brother LUC, all hairdressers). It’s a stunning story (above) that didn’t reach our usual masses of readers because it launched during the depth of Covid-19 lockdown when newsstands around the world were closed and access to free press was basically N/A. Gosh, what a flashback. Want it? Please email us your best Margiela-related anecdote (just hit reply) and we’ll send a copy of issue 32 to our favourite entry.

OPEN THE DOOR

Check out this photo series of door handles on Avenue Montaigne, Paris. It serves as a digital companion to a great textual survey, by SEB LAW, of the famous street’s most eye-popping door designs. Read the full piece in the current issue of Fantastic Man (pages 44–47).

The weather’s too nice to read emails – go take a swim!
