One World Heritage location that connects many. As world leaders in reef management, the Reef Authority is looked to for aiding and setting a standard for best practice for reef management globally. Connecting the Reef to the world, is paramount as the global pressures of today and yesterday will continue to influence the future of the Reef and all of us. Together, no matter who we are or where we are, we can all contribute to the future of this global icon. From pollution to solutionAn estimated 19-23 million tonnes of plastic ends up in lakes, rivers and seas annually. That is approximately the weight of 2,200 Eiffel Towers all together. We are calling everyone to help reduce the global reliance on plastics. Without action, plastic waste flowing into aquatic ecosystems will nearly triple by 2040. Unis abroadOver the past few months, the Reef Authority has hosted a range of international masters university students. Over 450 alumni have participated in this program. We caught up with Julie who coordinates these programs to find out more about them. The Reef to youDid you know that the Reef Authority delivers virtual learning experiences? Connecting over 105,000 people from 34 different countries, it doesn't matter where in the world you are we can bring the Reef to you. Our next session is all about introducing you to this incredible ecosystem. Open to everyone, feel free to invite your friends and family along. The mass migration It's not only international people who we are welcoming to our waters this winter. Around 30 species of whale and dolphin are found in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, many migrating to our warmer waters around this time of year.
