Your monthly donation is spreading goodness across Lombok, Indonesia. Do good. Feel good.
MARCH IMPACT REPORT Every month, your impact grows. The photo above captures students patiently waiting for their new Block classrooms. SDN 4 Santong school lost all of its buildings during the Lombok earthquakes of 2018. For the first time, the school is receiving permanent structures. Until now, these students, along with 107 others, have been learning in temporary classrooms that are in dilapidated condition. Any day now, they will be learning in their new school! Because of you and The Block community, we keep getting closer to our goal of building 200 schools and 4000 homes with recycled plastic waste in Lombok, Indonesia. Thank you for transforming lives and cleaning up our planet every month. FIVE MORE BLOCK SCHOOLSOver the last few weeks our local partner, Classroom of Hope Indonesia, has been hard at work with their local contractors building FIVE schools. We will share completed photos of the schools with you next month, but for now here's a sneak peak of the building process.
Big milestones were reached with these new Block Schools.Milestone #1This is the first time we have built five schools in such a short period. Doing this has been a test of our capacity-building program, and we are thrilled to say that there were no complications at any of the building sites. The capacity-building program has successfully transferred skills and knowledge to local building contractors. The building teams are incredibly confident and proficient at using Block technology.
Milestone # 2 These five schools are the first Block Schools in the world made from Indonesia's recycled plastic waste. We couldn't be more excited to be building with locally-produced Blocks, which not only helps to reduce Indonesia's plastic waste problem but also decreases the cost of each Block School and reduces our carbon emissions.
Milestone #3 Our Block Schools Program now includes Block Toilets. During the 2018 earthquakes, toilets were destroyed at the schools, and roughly 95% of the schools we are building need toilets. Clean toilets play an important role in creating safe and healthy school environments where children can focus on education. When we provide Block Toilets, we help students to feel more comfortable at school while removing plastic waste from the environment and reducing our carbon footprint.
