Mentoring Surveyor discussion paper

It has been over 3-years since the introduction of the mentoring surveyor role. BOSSI is seeking industry feedback on the role that the mentoring surveyor plays in guiding the candidate surveyor in their preparation for the Board examinations.

A discussion paper is available on the BOSSI website and we would like your feedback.There is a short online form linked to the discussion paper. Please provide your feedback by 5pm Friday 16 August 2024.

Spatial Information Committee - Industry Representatives

Training Committee - Town Planning Representative

BOSSI is calling for expressions of interest for volunteers to assist the Board's Spatial Information Committee and Training Committee (Town Planning Representative) in undertaking their functions.The role will involve attending the Committee’s meetings (approximately 6 per year) and be involved in the Committee’s activities. 

Applications must include a copy of your resume with a 1-page cover letter detailing the relevant skills and experience you bring to the committee.

Please submit your expression of interest to  bossi@customerservice.nsw.gov.au by 5pm Thursday 1 August 2024.

Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR)  – 5 year mining survey exemption approved

 

A five-year exemption (from 1 July 2024) for mining surveying in NSW under AMR has been granted. This means that for the next 5-years, licenced mining surveyors from other jurisdictions that wish to work in NSW as a registered mining surveyor cannot apply under AMR and must apply to BOSSI through Mutual Recognition.

 
 

BOSSI Complaint Policy Update

 

The Board's Complaint Policy which explains the process whereby complaints made against NSW registered surveyors or “land and mining surveys” are investigated by the Board has been updated. 

 
 

New BOSSI Board Appointments

Over recent months there have been changes to membership of the Board. The Board extends its thanks to outgoing Board appointees for their service including; Roshni Sharma, Charles Fransen, Michael Lamont and Jason Thomas. These members have made significant contributions to BOSSI activities during their tenure including valued contributions to a number of the BOSSI committees.

We welcome three new members to the Board, Chris Larmour representing the Association of Consulting Surveyors NSW, Michael Spiteri representing the Institution of Surveyors NSW and Richard Lemon representing the Geospatial Council of Australia. BOSSI would also like to congratulate Thomas Casey and Brittany Baker on their re-appointments to the Board.

 

Christopher Larmour is a Registered Land Surveyor and the Technical Director at CMS Surveyors. An honours graduate of UNSW, earning a Bachelor of Engineering (Surveying and Spatial Information Systems) in 2008, Chris is a highly qualified professional. With more than 15 years’ experience in the surveying industry, Chris has skills and expertise across a wide range of projects, including greenfield subdivisions, mining, high-tech laser scanning, 3D modelling and visualisations.

 

Michael Spiteri is a Registered Land Surveyor at NSW Public Works in the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. Michael has a diverse career background that includes roles in the private sector, local and state government. From his tenure as BOSSI Registrar from 2013 to 2018, to his extensive experience undertaking surveys to support the construction of community infrastructure across the state, Michael has proven himself as a dedicated and skilled professional.

 

Richard Lemon is a Registered Land Surveyor in NSW with over 30 years experience working for both public and private sectors locally and internationally. Richard brings a wealth of professional and technical knowledge, strong project management and technical expertise in surveying, GIS, aerial survey, photogrammetry and mapping.
