May 2020: Back to work in Ashhurst

Kia ora

We hope you and your family are doing ok, what a month! Great news, our contractors are preparing to return to work in Ashhurst now that New Zealand has moved to COVID-19 Alert Level 3.

You will see them back on the roads from early May.

At Level 3, our crews will be following the official New Zealand construction Covid-19 protocols including restricted access to sites, requirements for workers to maintain physical distancing, and the use of additional protective clothing.

All workers will go through a Covid-19 induction and learn new practices and protocols to keep them and the surrounding community and road users safe.

The CHASNZ standards and guidelines include measures for pre-planning work, documenting the health and safety of staff, ensuring safe physical distancing is maintained, cleaning of all plant, tools and vehicles, and being able to quickly and accurately trace people should they come in contact with someone who contracts COVID-19.

Normally we like to chat face to face but we need to request that physical distancing requirements be respected at this time.

Please do not approach our teams or enter our work sites without formal approval.

If you do need one of the team to come and see you once we start work, we can organise this but with appropriate physical distancing and safety in mind

You can call or text us on 0279778866 or email ashhurst@nzta.govt.nz if you have any questions or want to arrange a visit.

Stay safe and thanks for your understanding.

Partnering with Palmerston North City Council and the community

Palmerston North City Council (PNCC) and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency have re-established a community forum that are set to meet on the 5th May.

The forum is a way for the PNCC, Waka Kotahi and the Ashhurst community to openly discuss the local transport network. This group will meet regularly.

Thanks for your feedback

We’d like to thank everyone who came to our community pop-in sessions in February and early March to give feedback on our designs for Ashhurst.

The project team have been working through all the comments as they refine the designs and get ready for construction in the coming weeks.

If you didn’t make it to one of these events, you can check out the designs online http://www.nzta.govt.nz/ashhurst
