BB Communication Kia ora Whilst visiting many of our leaders, volunteers and host churches on our national Child Protection Roadshow, I was humbled by the servant heart we have amongst our movement. It was such a pleasure to meet with many of you and I cannot emphasize enough how grateful we are for your contribution to BB New Zealand. There will be more on the Child Protection Roadshow in the next Bugle as well as the policies we intend to roll out to you in support of your local company/unit. The AGM is this weekend in Auckland, being held at St George's Anglican Church in Papatoetoe on Saturday at 2pm. We hope you can make it, if not we will have a live Zoom feed for those in the far flung regions of the country. Malcolm Gray TributeCondolences on the passing of Malcom Gray recently I understand that he is another of our legendary Boys Brigade members. Having gained his BB Queens Badge in 1957 - this meant he was the first boy in the Company to become a Queens Man, since Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne. He went on to become the Captain of the 6th Christchurch BB Company from 1960 -1966, at a very young age indeed! I have been advised that he took over the Captaincy from Ivan Clarke, in August 1960 - and this being the very first day Les Bouterey stepped into St Paul's Trinity Pacific Church, who has stayed ever since! Malcolm has been a great role model for so many young men through his involvement with BB, and also as the Church Organist and choir master for some time under George Martin. Les Bouterey was equally inspired and went on to become the National BB President! It is an honour to serve in the same Kingdom Ministry as Malcolm, even though my time is well after the legacy input and contributions that Malcolm has made in the lives of many others. (excerpt from a letter sent to the Gray family by our President, Richard Harkness) Riverhead CampRiverhead Commando Camp V2 was held at the end of May following on from Commando Camp V1 held in March 2022. Despite some chilly conditions and a little rain, we had a great Saturday with calm clear conditions and the planned activities took place. These included Kayaking, Football, Mountain Biking, Volley Ball, Golf Range practice, Air Rifle Competition, and even a go on a digger under the careful supervision of Phil Reed from Massey ICONZ. Phil being Phil went the extra mile and stayed on the digger sweeping material into the bonfire for another 1.5 hours! (Looked like fun). That night there was the most amazing bonfire, loads more games and of course spot light among the Chestnut Trees which provided some additional obstacles to the fun!We were honored with a visit from Richard Harkness and a couple of young men from Tauranga who drove the many hours to be with us at Riverhead. Richard later commented it was one of the best camps he had attended in 25 years. We thought so too!A big thank you to Adrian Low from Helensville ICONZ who made it possible to hold the Riverhead Commando V2 Camp on that land. Thank you to all the leaders, volunteers and parents from Helensville, Massey and Windsor Park ICONZ.Next summer, a surf camp out West maybe? Thanks to our friends at Torpedo 7 for another voucher for us to use within BB and for our friends and family. Please take this with you and use the bar code or the code listed in the voucher. Funny to finish! |
