Latest Updates from ABVP

President's Message

Gary Thompson, DVM, DABVP (Canine and Feline), President

I hope this finds everyone enjoying the summer months and time with family and friends. ABVP’s volunteer terms match our fiscal calendar of July 1st to June 30th and we have a few people whose terms of service to our organization have ended that I would like to take the opportunity to thank. Rob Coke, Craig Datz, Mike Dutton and Brita Kiffney have been incredible assets to the organization over the years. Craig has served as Interim Treasurer, Mike as Exam Committee Chair, Rob as Reptile/Amphibian Regent and Brita as Outreach Committee Chair. The good news is Brita and Craig will still be serving in other roles, but I want to personally thank everyone for their service to ABVP. I am always amazed by the diversity of views ABVP brings to our processes and I never take for granted the time and effort our volunteers put forth to help keep the wheels turning. On other fronts, an email should be in your inbox about dues renewal and the bylaws update will be forthcoming as well. We have been in the process of legal review of the changes and you should be receiving the final product soon for your approval.

ABVP Diplomates

In order for the ABVP Foundation to continue and flourish we need the support of the ABVP membership both financially and via participation in the Foundation Board. We are sending out a plea for volunteers as we urgently need to add at least 3 Directors to the Foundation Board this year to help fulfill the goals of the Foundation which currently are:

1) Send veterinary students to the Annual ABVP Symposium as Denny French
Fellows.

2) Abstract/Poster Session/presentations for ABVP Residents at 2023
Symposium and annually thereafter.

3) Solicit for and pick one research grant to support annually.

ABVP Foundation Directors are elected to serve a 3-year term. Attendance at the Annual Foundation Board meeting, typically in conjunction with ABVP Symposium, is required along with active participation in conference calls, email, Zoom meetings, and other forms of communication. Each Director is responsible for active fundraising to keep the Foundation solvent and to fulfill the current goals of the Foundation. Directors are also responsible for moving the Foundation forward and to keep it relevant to the ABVP Diplomates, veterinary students, Residents, and the public that supports us. As a reminder, you will receive points each year that you serve that will be applied toward your ABVP Diplomate Maintenance of Certification
. If you are interested in becoming a Foundation Director, please send a letter stating why you want to be part of this awesome organization and listing any skills you bring as well as sending your resume. Once the Foundation Board has received and reviewed your information, we will be in touch. Thank you so much for your support!

Sincerely,
Julie R. Gamble DVM, DABVP (Canine and Feline Practice)
ABVP Foundation Chairman
