Prestons Road Bridge ready for beams

From Tuesday 17 December for three days we will be placing the beams for the Prestons Road bridge.

We will have a single crane on the south side of the Prestons Bridge picking up and place the beams. This work will not impact the traffic on Prestons Road.

The 400 tonne crane, lifting the beams, will be moved from the QEII Drive area over the motorway alignment to the Prestons Road site on Monday 16 December - at 1.2 km/h.

This is the final large lift operation on the project - Hurray!

Thank you for responding to our online survey

282 people provided feedback to us. Thank you very much for the lovely feedback and all your comments on what you like in our communication, project management and where we need to improve things.

We go through each comment and where there is a request or question, we try to follow through and make improvements. You may find some information to answer your questions in new updates and emails and please be assured that we discuss compliments and complaints with the crews in the office and on the ground. The comments on the condition of the road/shared use paths, traffic management and speed have been shared with the responsible managers to progress.

Thank you for your patience when we delayed your trip; it was no surprise for us to read that you didn’t like the SH1 delay over the November weekend, and that several residents are getting over their detours and the Prestons Road traffic lights. We know the Chaneys on and off ramp and Hills Road closures were a pain and for many our work on Cranford and QEII is experienced as slow and busy traffic.

A few made comments or requests on picking up fallen cones. Just to let you know, we have crews out to check our sites and traffic set ups twice a day in general. To pick up fallen cones along live traffic lanes we need an attenuator truck to slow the traffic so another crew in front of the truck can pick these up safely. We can only slow the traffic in off peak hours so that’s why it doesn’t always happen immediately. We need to pick our moments when traffic is low and weather conditions are fine, it’s not safe or sensible to pick up cones, signs or fences when the wind is still howling.

We will include more details on planning (accurate dates) for our completion, more (old fashioned) location maps, contact details and diagrams, as requested. Thank you also to all who shared our information with friends, family or at school and work.

Bridge beam installation on QEII Drive - reminder

From Friday 13 December for three nights we will be placing the beams on the QEII Drive Bridge. We need to do this work at night due to the high traffic volumes on QEII Drive during the day.

While we lift and place each beam over QEII Drive, traffic in both directions will be stopped for up to 15 minutes. We don’t expect all 11 beams to take 15 minutes each, however please expect delays, and if you can, avoid the area over these three nights.
