Supporting the Palmerston North community with kai securityKāinga Ora always seeks opportunities to work with local partners and organisations to support our communities. A recent example is our collaboration with Manawatū Food Action Network (MFAN) to help our customers with kai security.Manawatu Food Action Network (MFAN) Gardening tip:Although it is still cold, it’s a great time of the year to prepare your garden for strawberries. Did you know strawberry plants send out “runners” to form new plants? If you have strawberries from a previous year that have sent out runners, you can carefully cut the stem leading to the new plant and move to spare space in your garden. New strawberry plant for free!Strawberry plants love lots of food, so be sure to dig in compost or something with plenty of nutrients into your strawberry beds before planting. Going to the beach sometime? Take a bag with you and collect some seaweed. Dig it into the soil for extra nutrients or dry it and use it as mulch around your strawberry plants for repelling slugs and snails, easy! Happy Strawberry growing! Planter boxes for our whānau To date, 53 planter boxes have been delivered to our whānau’s homes to allow them to be more sustainable.
