Honoring the Day of Remembrance with Dreamer Scholars

On February 19th, we joined communities across the country in observing the Day of Remembrance — a day to recall and reflect upon the incarceration of Japanese Americans that began with an executive order issued on that date in 1942.

At our Community Center in South Boulder, elementary, middle, and high school students gathered for age-appropriate cultural and historical learning sessions. Scholars explored Japanese culture and history through an introduction to origami, a wide array of Japanese snacks, and computer-based lessons that brought history to life in an engaging way.

A highlight of the day was the "Wishing Wall," where Dreamer Scholars wrote their own heartfelt wishes for a better, kinder world.

  • My wish is that everybody could have freedom.
  • I wish that people would say kind words to other people.
  • I wish that every kid could feel safe at school/home and be able to play.
  • I wish people wouldn't be taken away just because of the color of their skin.

Reading their reflections was a powerful reminder of why this work matters — and of how thoughtful and compassionate these Dreamer Scholars are.

If you have a moment, we invite you to watch a video of highlights, including more wishes, from these events. You'll be glad you did.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Mardi Crawl Run Raises Over $1,300 for IHDF!

We are grateful for the incredible community support shown at the Mardi Crawl Run this past Sunday! Thanks to the generous participants and the team at All-Out Multicourse Productions, the event raised over $1,300 for the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County.

Every dollar raised helps us create pathways and opportunities that empower our Dreamer Scholars and their families to learn, grow, and thrive. Events like this remind us that our community shows up — and it truly makes a difference right now.
