SH2 median barriers update

Two new sections of median barriers have now been installed along State Highway 2 in Upper Hutt—

  • 1.5km kilometres of median barriers installed between Whakatiki and Gibbons Streets.
  • 1km kilometre of median barriers installed between Gibbons Street and Totara Park Road

In addition, we've also installed around 300 metres of additional side barriers near the intersections in the area.

Next steps
Our focus is to finalise the design for the third and final section (between Totara Park Road to Fergusson Drive) as soon as we can.

This does include further work on how the design interacts with the stop bank at the northern end of the project, but will mean we can accommodate the new road layout better, while maintaining a sufficient shoulder.

We anticipate the project will resume in the first half of 2024 but will let you know once dates are confirmed.

Until then, all temporary speed limits and traffic management have been removed, which means the road is now operating as normal.

We want to thank you for your patience as this work has progressed and want to assure you that we aim to deliver the remaining work as soon as possible.
