Progress at Omoto slip after weekend of rain

“The Omoto site fared well over the weekend despite the rain,” says Colin Hey, Senior Network Manager, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

“There has been no appreciable movement, so we have been able to progress the drilling work. The drill rig is now working on the lower slope to install the horizontal drains. Two of the six drains have now been completed, and work is progressing on the third.

“Some water is now flowing from the two drains already installed – this is a promising sign, although it’s too early to say yet whether this will completely stabilise the slip.”

The Transport Agency will update slip drilling progress on SH7 between Greymouth and Stillwater at Omoto in coming days as it comes to hand.

In the meantime, a short detour of SH7 is in place between Stillwater and Greymouth on the north side of the Grey River, via Taylorville. The detour is signposted at Stillwater and Greymouth. Click here to view the detour map.

Please follow all traffic management signage, in particular the 30km/h speed limit at Coal Creek overbridge.

Thank you for your patience as we work with KiwiRail to fully restore the Omoto link as soon as possible.
