New bin service starts next week - banner
Hi there,
Welcome to our first eNewsletter of 2023.

As always, the world of waste and recycling is fast paced and always changing. To support the community in recycling more and reducing less, Council has relaunched its 'Let's Get Sorted' waste education campaign alongside many new and exciting initiatives.

Keep reading to find out what we've been up to and how you can get involved.

Can you believe it's been three years of the four-bin service?

It has been three years since the initial launch of the four-bin service across the shire. Thanks to all of the amazing efforts of each individual sorting their waste, we have achieved a diversion of 74% of waste from landfill, some of the highest in the state.

In our recent survey 'Help us make recycling easier', 79% of respondents were happy that Council has a four-bin system to recycle most of their household waste and reduce their environmental footprint.

42% of respondents in the survey said they want to sort waste correctly but get confused.

A letter and handy brochure to put on the fridge and help you sort your waste is currently being delivered to all households. Over the next few months you'll also see lots of handy hints and information shared through the state-wide 'Small acts, big impacts' campaign.

TetraPaks are back!

Exciting news – TetraPaks, UHT long-life milk and juice cartons are now accepted again in your recycling bin!

After not being able to be recycled in Australia for numerous years, Council’s recycling processor is now accepting long-life cartons.

The containers are sent to a specialist recycler in NSW to be turned into innovative new products by saveBOARD, a sustainable building material company that makes plasterboard, cladding and acoustic panels.

Keep up-to-date with what does and doesn't belong in your recycling bin by visiting our website or downloading the MRSC waste app.

Recycling tip: Make the most out of FOGO !

Your FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) bin is for more than just garden clippings. All food scraps and garden clippings can go into your green bin. Your small acts have a huge impact on Victoria’s sustainable future.

FOGO works well alongside compost bins, worm farms and other home management practices; and allows you to compost items such as certified compostable packaging, noxious weeds and more!
