Welcome to the Barnet Together (13 January 2022) newsletter.

I hope you managed to get some time off around the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays and are now back raring to go!

The New Year has seen my in-box fill up with new funding opportunties, new jobs being advertised across the Barnet VCFSE and free training and networking opportunities, so sharing a few highlights with you here!  If you have any new plans and want to have a chat about how these can be realised then do get in touch.

Apply for up to £10,000 for your creative, cultural projects in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The Let's Create Jubilee Fund will help make the Jubilee celebrations an opportunity for communities throughout England to enjoy the best of the country’s culture and creativity, as well as celebrating an important milestone in our national history.

Applicants are encouraged to partner with established artists, creatives and cultural organisations to develop their activities.

Deadline: Tuesday 28 February

Opportunities for help with transport funding to reduce loneliness

The Tackling Loneliness Team at the Department for Transport (DfT) have announced that the Tackling Loneliness with Transport fund is now open for Expressions of Interest.

The project will offer grant funding up to £500,000 to the public and charity sectors to run pilot transport schemes that aim to reduce loneliness. The pilots will be measured and evaluated rigorously, enabling DfT to understand more about how transport can be used to help reduce loneliness, and share these findings with organisations within and outside government.

Schemes may involve:

  • rail
  • bus
  • active travel (cycling, scooting and walking)
  • built environment
  • community transport or car schemes
  • demand responsive transport
  • technological transport innovations
  • mobility centres
  • accessibility and inclusivity transport measures

Your Best Friend are empowering all 13-24 year old girls, young women, and non-binary people with knowledge and confidence to help their friends

Message from Your Best Friend... "Through this project we’ll help each other understand young people’s relationships, what happens when they become unsafe and provide you and other young people with the knowledge and confidence to help yourself or your friends.

"We are distributing £300,000 in grants to organisations and groups based in England and Wales to create their own ideas and projects that support Your Best Friend’s aims. We expect to give 30-40 small grants of £1,000 - £10,000 and 6-8 large grants between £10,000 and £25,000."

Funding for outer London boroughs tackling inequality and poverty  

Crowdfunder's and Trust for London's Local Action Poverty Fund are offering up to £10,000 match funding for communities tackling poverty and inequality in outer London, Barnet has been identified as a priority borough.

Approved projects will be offered match funding of up to 50% towards the initial crowdfunding target (up to a maximum of £10,000).Eligible projects must be raising funds to undertake charitable work that:

  • Provides practical solutions to support people on low incomes
  • Addresses local problems in creative ways
  • Are led by the communities that will benefit from the work

MDXcelerator and Entrepreneurial Barnet Competition Present: What’s Your Big Idea?

This year, Middlesex University's MDXcelerator Start-Up programme and the Entrepreneurial Barnet Competition are partnering to offer a joint programme that is open to Middlesex University students and alumni, Barnet residents and students from Barnet and Southgate College.

They'll be offering a compelling and innovative mix of masterclasses and workshops, delivered by successful entrepreneurs, networking opportunities, pitching challenges, one-to-one mentoring from successful business founders and the chance to pitch for seed-funding in front of an esteemed panel of renowned entrepreneurs and business leaders.

FREE Fundraising Training for Barnet's VCFSE from Barnet Together

The New Year brings with it new aspirations and challenges!  If securing more funding is one of your objectives for 2022, then join us for one, some or all of our online training sessions, being held fortnightly from Wednesday 26 January through to 4 May 2022.

Each session is independent of the others, but by attending them all you will gain skills and insights into raising money through trusts and foundations, how to diversify your income and make better connections with funders and supporters.

FREE Bereavement Awareness Training from Mind in Barnet and Enfield

Mind in Barnet and Enfield are delivering a free Bereavement Awareness Training to members of the Barnet community who work and support those who are bereaved  

By the end of the training you will have: gained understanding of grief and bereavement, learnt how to support people when they are grieving, learnt how to support yourself while supporting others.  

  • Who can attend? Anyone working or volunteering in Barnet and who support members of the community who are bereaved. 
  • How long is the training? The training lasts 2 hours. 
  • How is the training delivered? On Zoom – details sent in advance to registered participants

Wednesday 19 January: 9.30am

Monday 31 January: 2pm 

Wednesday 23 February: 9.30am

This online event is brought to you by the Innovation Unit and The National Lottery Community Fund.

It will bring together NHS organisations working locally to tackle health inequalities with VCFSE partners to explore how they can best work together in partnership.

It will spotlight The National Lottery Community Fund's Health Equality funded partnerships and explore examples of promising practice and different ways in which partners have worked together.

Sign up to Barnet’s voluntary sector Manifesto

Barnet Together is calling for community, voluntary, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) groups as well as statutory organisations and businesses operating in the borough of Barnet, to sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Sector Manifesto.

The aim of the Manifesto is to create better understanding and deeper cross-sector collaboration between organisations working within Barnet. By signing up to the Manifesto, groups and service providers agree to adhere to the values within the document. 

If you are a representative of a group, service provider or business based in or serving Barnet, then you can sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Manifesto.
