Click here Thursday 1st June 2023 | Rāpare,1 Hune 2023 Kia ora mai tātou, We’ve got some exciting news to share with you this month with calls for people to participate in the first round of Reimagining sessions and setting up a Community Engagement Working Group. The Governance Group who met this month and were happy with the progress made. We are all excited about the ‘rubber hitting the road’ with our Reimagining Sessions coming up in the community soon. They advised Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou project team to align community engagement where we can and ensure that we have safe places and are inclusive in our approach – great advice! MINISTER'S VISIT WITH TE WĀHI TIAKI TĀTOU Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira leaders and Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou project team hosted Hon. Dr Ayesha Verrall – Minister for Health and Hon. Barbara Edmonds – Minister for Pacific People, and Associate Minister for Health. We shared our progress and approach to support the health system reform and how we plan to meet the aspirations for our Porirua whānau by working directly with the community to develop the solutions we need. REIMAGINING HAUORA IN PORIRUA The next phase of community engagement and consultation is about to commence. And now the heavy lifting begins! The community have shared with us what is important to them, and we are now ready to work together with them through Reimagining workshops. The Reimagining workshops will begin in July 2023 with the first focus topics being: Tāngata Whaikaha Data Systems and Dental. We would like your assistance to create focus groups for each of these identified focus areas and invite people in Porirua - with lived experience and passion, to be part of this journey of transforming the health system. The focus group members for these sessions will be asked to commit to a weeks’ worth of workshopping, and they will be compensated for their time and energy. We are aware that this is a big commitment, so if you cannot commit to a week, kei te pai, there will be opportunities for everyone to give their thoughts and ideas about the identified focus areas with walk-through sessions and an online option. More information on opportunities of involvement will be circulated in our special-edition E-pānui in June 2023 Any pātai/questions please email the team: porirualocalities@ngatitoa.iwi.nz LEAD WITH STORIES - COLLABORATIVE AOTEAROA We teamed up with Collaborative Aotearoa who delivered the Lead with Stories workshops with our local community. Developing solutions that are community led will be the key to the success of the health reform. These workshops are designed to empower community members to create space for storytelling, to bring the voices of whānau together and harness the Power of Stories for communities. Mariana Smeaton shared this: "Jehan's capacity to actively connect with us while narrating his personal narrative filled me with a sense of motivation to share, guide, and confront my own story with equal bravery”. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WORKING GROUP Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou Community Engagement Working Group Are you great at getting your community involved in stuff that matters to them? Do you want to be part of ensuring community voices are at the heart of leading the way to transform health and wellbeing in Porirua? If so, we’re inviting expressions of interest to serve on the Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou Community Engagement Working Group! The purpose of the Working Group is to help Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou project team by providing advice and supporting the development of communications, events and activities that reach and resonate with our communities. We know there are communities in our rohe that experience inequity and having representation for these communities is key. Our aim is to have a diverse working group to ensure we do our best to connect with all the different communities here in Porirua. As a Working Group member, you will bring your knowledge of what events, communications and activities work well and what doesn’t for your community. Your experience in community-led initiatives is a must for this role. The Working Group may meet up to twice a month and may participate in events and activities. In return you will be renumerated for your time. We are seeking expressions from people or existing networks/groups who live in Porirua and have a deep connection and strong relationships with the community.
