Peka Peka to Ōtaki corridor improvements

Summer season works shutdown

From today, all daytime corridor improvements work will finish for the year. The work sites will all be tidied up and packed down as much as possible. Our crew will carry on with limited night works for the following week or so, to help make sure we finish the project as quickly as possible. This work won’t affect parking over that time.

Like everyone else, our crews are looking forward to spending time with their families over summer and the Christmas break. They'll then be back in the new year to finish off the corridor improvements.

There’s plenty happening in Ōtaki over the coming days and weeks, with all the shopping options and upcoming Christmas Markets. We hope everyone gets a chance to head out and enjoy everything Ōtaki has to offer over this period.

New traffic lights up and running

The new traffic lights at the Riverbank Road intersection went live last week. With these lights, priority is given to traffic travelling along old SH1. So, when there’s no traffic, the lights will remain green for the Main Highway, until someone stops at the lights on Riverbank Road.

It often takes a couple of weeks for road users to become accustomed to a new layout like this but the Wellington Transport Operation Centre (WTOC), who monitor the network, have been pleased with how it’s operating to this point. Please continue to have patience with other road users who may not be as familiar with the new layout.
