As part of recognising this day for our Trust, we spoke to Sarah Smyth, the Trust’s Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Professions/Caldicott Guardian. Sarah shared her perspectives on the importance of mental health nursing and addressed the incredible team working throughout services in the Trust. We also introduced our new Head of Nursing Mental Health, Sian Johnson, who is excited to work with us in our ongoing journey in delivering outstanding care to our service users. Humber Shortlisted for Two Digital Healthcare AwardsHumber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust have been making huge strides in their digital innovations, in line with the NHS 10 Year Plan’s push for digitisation in healthcare. Now the Trust has been shortlisted for two Health Service Journal (HSJ) Digital Awards 2026. Hull: More Than Half Of All Local Babies Are Now BreastfedThe City of Hull has just reached a significant milestone in efforts to increase breastfeeding. Now over half (52%) of babies in Hull are receiving breastmilk at 6 weeks, representing a dramatic rise from just 6% in 2008. Children’s Mental Health Week 2026: Helping Young People to ‘belong’Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 (9-15 February) focused on a sense of belonging with the theme of ‘This is My Place’. Independent Visitors are adults who offer support to children and young people who are living with a foster family or in residential care. They are separate from social services, all other agencies, and are just for the young person. Independent Visitors are volunteers who offer confidential support to a young person they have been specifically matched with on a long-term basis. Friends and Family Test The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback. Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment. 94.3% of respondents (88 total) thought they were involved in their care and listened to within the Mental Health Planned Division in January. "Always having someone to talk to, whether that be good or bad, can talk over phone or will always be someone you can go to the service and talk to face to face."
