The final set of bridge beams being lifted onto the new SH1 southbound bridge over Slippery Creek/Otuuwairoa Stream. Construction update | He pānuiKia ora Autumn has certainly made its presence felt this last month, with cooler temperatures setting in and rain becoming more frequent. Works on the Papakura to Drury (P2D) project have continued to progress well over the past month – read on for updates across the project length. |

Slippery Creek / Otuuwairoa StreamLast month, we finished lifting in the bridge beams that form the deck for the first half of the new southbound motorway bridge over Otuuwairoa Stream. The team is now installing reinforced steel on top of the beams before concrete pours begin for the bridge decks in late May or early June. We have also been building the approaches on both sides of this new bridge and will continue this work for around five months. This length of time is needed to allow for ground settlement. |
||
Bremner Road at Ngaakooroa StreamLast month, we started western piling works for the permanent bridge over Ngaakooroa Stream, which must be completed within 5 weeks. Once these piling works are completed, we will start piling works on the eastern side of the stream, again for 5 weeks. Due to the high voltage power lines above the stream (see above), our piling works must be done under a partial shutdown of the overhead lines by Transpower, for a strictly limited duration. Our works need to run day and night, 7 days a week, during the shutdown periods to complete the piles before the power lines are re-energised. [Note: These works do not impact Auckland’s power supply as only one set of overhead lines (of four) will be shut down at any given time.] |

Bremner Road at SH1Last month, we continued with preparatory works to enable us to build a large diaphragm retaining wall (D-wall) on the southbound side of the motorway. This month, we will complete building this temporary working platform shown above before starting to dig for the D-wall construction. This D-wall will take approximately 6 months to build. |

Drury InterchangeLast month, we completed driving in all casings for the piles of the new SH1 bridge on the northern side of Great South Road. Over the next couple of weeks, we will continue installing reinforcing steel inside these pile casings (see above) and then filling them with concrete. Later this month, the crane will be moved across to the southern side of Great South Road to start piling works there, which are expected to take six months to complete. This month, we will shift the Drury southbound off-ramp traffic slightly to the west onto a new temporary alignment now being built. This temporary shift will allow us to rebuild the permanent southbound off-ramp in its current position. |

SH22 / Great South RoadEarly on Friday 17 April, the traffic signals at the SH22 / Victoria Street / Mercer Street intersection went 'live', restoring access in all directions. This was a significant project milestone and has been well received by Auranga and Mercer Street residents. The team is currently preparing to cut over a wastewater main on the side of SH22 just west of Mercer Street. This month, we will start construction works on SH22 on the eastern side of Drury Interchange, between the motorway overbridge and the Hingaia Stream bridge. |

SH1 south of Drury InterchangeLast month we continued installing wick drains between Drury Interchange and the new bridges over the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) railway. This month, we will shift our focus to pavement works between the southern end of Flanagan Road and Tegal Road, which are expected to last three months. We will also continue carrying out ground improvements (see above) and installing wick drains near the NIMT bridges, and rebuilding the realigned Flanagan Road. |
