Welcome to this edition of He Pānui - Te Māngai Pāho, keeping you up to date with the latest news in te reo Māori content and funding across Aotearoa! 2025/26 Funding CalendarBelow are the funding rounds and dates for music and diverse content for the 2025/26 financial year. You can download the document here or go to our music and diverse content pages on our website where the funding round and dates are found. Here is where we will also upload all RFPs. These dates are tentative and are subject to change should there be any significant changes to our budget and what funding we have available for 2025/26. We will confirm this once we know after Budget Day. In the meantime, we hope that this provides some certainty in your application planning for the year. 2024/25 Special Projects - open nowThe purpose of this funding is to support the production and broadcast of media content in alignment with Māori celebrations of national significance between 1 April 2025 and 30 March 2026. The ambition is that content produced with this funding will add to the awareness and enjoyment of the occasion while emphasising Māori culture and language as an integral part of our national identity. Priority is given to content for Matariki 2025 including celebrating Puanga; and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori in September 2025. Content ideas to support other established kaupapa of national importance are also welcome to apply. Welcome to 2025 e hoa mā. Our team at Te Māngai Pāho are all back on deck, refreshed and ready to embrace the challenges in front of us all. There are many drivers of change facing our sector: the economics of traditional broadcasting; the emergence of innovative new platforms; evolving audience demands; and political priorities to name a few. While change is inevitable, it is crucial that in the coming months and years that we are honest with one another; we do our best to move forward together; we are evidence-based; and steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the changes made are countenanced to improve outcomes for te reo Māori. Ko te reo te take! ![]() Larry Parr Meet our kaimahi - Te Hua WaihangaLast year we shared some of our new kaimahi who have joined our small team. This year we want to share with you a bit more about our teams, kaimahi, and the work they do. Te Hua Waihanga team is responsible for content. They set the funding round criteria, engage with content creators on their ideas, run the assessments of applications and prepare the funding recommendations to the Board. ![]() Nadia Marsh - Hautū Te Hua Waihanga Nadia leads the Te Hua Waihanga team. Nadia worked as our Mātanga Puoro for just over three years prior to taking the role of Hautū Te Hua Waihanga in 2023. She brings her extensive music and radio broadcasting experience to the role along with an excellent understanding of audiences and the creative process. ![]() Carl Goldsmith - Kaihāpai Te Hua Waihanga Carl is our longest serving kaimahi and has worked for Te Māngai Pāho since 2001. Carl manages the services, support and relationships with the iwi radio network portfolio. ![]() Phil Bell ONZM aka DJ Sir-Vere - Kaihāpai Te Hua Waihanga Phil joined our team last year and in the short time he has been with us, he has fully embraced the music portfolio. Working with new and experienced artists he has managed to reignite some contracts and also foster some great new relationships within the music sector. Phil has his finger on the pulse of Māori music and there are exciting projects on the horizon. ![]() Ani-Piki Tuari - Kaihāpai Te Hua Waihanga Ani-Piki joined the team in October last year to cover parental leave. Ani-Piki works closely with Nadia in the diverse content area of our funding. She brings vast experience and an exceptionally broad understanding of the content and creative processes. Her passion and commitment to te reo Māori is electric and we are so excited by what she brings to the team. ![]() Juneea Silbery - Kaihāpai Te Hua Waihanga Juneea is currently on parental leave but is also in the Te Hua Waihanga team. When Juneea joined Te Māngai Pāho in 2021, her experience and expertise in te reo Māori was an injection of new life into Te Māngai Pāho. We look forward to when she is back on board with us later this year. ![]() Waitangi Day BroadcastLive from the Treaty Grounds, tune in on Waitangi Day between 5-10am for the official Waitangi Day broadcast. Waitangi 2025 - Ka Hao te Rangatahi will elevate the voices of young New Zealanders and the Aotearoa, New Zealand they want to see. For the first time, all New Zealand television networks, Whakaata Māori, TVNZ, SKY and Discovery will air the commemorations.
