Look out for lane changes on the Northern Motorway

Drivers are encouraged to look out for major lane changes on the Northern Motorway as a new northbound layout is now in place.

The northbound lanes between Constellation Drive and Greville Road Interchanges were shifted to a new layout earlier this month, to enable the next section of work to continue on the project.

The new layout means that people can use the left lanes to exit at Greville Road. An express lane is also operating in the right hand lane heading north only.

People should plan their journeys heading north and choose their lane much earlier than usual. Crews are working in a special work area to build the new underpass under the SH1 motorway, that will connect to the new State Highway 18.

Bus bridges take shape

Construction is progressing alongside the motorway to build the bridges for the new busway extension between Constellation and Albany Stations.

As you drive along State Highway 1, you will see that concrete piles and piers have popped up like mushrooms at Albany, Greville Road, Rosedale Road and Constellation Drive. Over 44 piles, 12 piers, 3 supports and 57 beams have been installed so far with many more to go.

Work will carry on for the next two years to finish the bridges and connect the stations to the new busway. It is scheduled to open in 2022.

Countdown to complete National Hockey Centre

The countdown is well underway to complete the new National Hockey Centre in Rosedale by the end of this year.

This month, mana whenua led a dawn blessing for the facility which includes pou markers at the entrance, a new pavilion building and a walking and cycling bridge to connect communities to Rosedale Park. This is the last of three sports facilities that are being relocated and improved as part of the project. It will be New Zealand’s leading international hockey facility and the new home for North Harbour Hockey.
