SH7 at Omoto is sealed and open to two-way traffic

SH7 at Omoto has been surfaced and is now open to two-lane, two-way traffic, in time for holiday travel.

Some road delineation works – edge markers etc. are still to be completed and will be finished soon.

The road surface in place now is temporary. Permanent reconstruction of the road will happen next year, once stabilisation works at the Omoto landslide are complete.

In the meantime, all road users are expected to follow temporary traffic management, including speed restriction.

The Omoto section of SH7 will be an active work site for a while yet. Short delays could be possible, so plan your journey accordingly.

KiwiRail re-opened the section of line at Omoto last week, restoring the TranzAlpine from Christchurch to Greymouth.

While short-term repairs of the rail line and road are complete, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and KiwiRail are working together on long-term remediation at the site, to ensure resilience of the link connecting the West Coast.
