Welcome to the first Marlborough Roads Recovery update of 2026. There are no works across the recovery sites until Monday 12 January 2026. With the exception of Northbank Road, there are no construction closures earlier than Monday 9 February 2026 (after Waitangi weekend). ---------------------------------------------------
In the Kenepuru, between Linkwater and the Heads, work is resuming on Monday 12 January in the following areas:
Approximately 17km from the start of Northbank Road, work is resuming under stop/go traffic management on Monday 12 January. From Tuesday 13 January until Friday 20 February, a construction closure will be in place. On Port Underwood Road, approximately 1.5km past McCormicks Road, crews will resume retaining wall construction on Monday 12 January. In the Queen Charlotte on Mahikipawa Hill Road, work is resuming on Monday 12 January to install a second culvert. All work is subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Upcoming road closures |

Northbank Road - 17km from the start of the road Works to repair a slip at approximately 17km from the start of Northbank Road will resume at 7am on Monday 12 January 2026 under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 30 minutes. From Tuesday 13 January until Friday 20 February construction closures will be in place on:
For the midday opening, vehicles must be at the closure no later than 12.30pm. The closure is required to safely excavate the slip and manage rockfall on this narrow section of road. Outside of these times stop/go trafffic management will be in place with delays of up to 5 minutes. --------------------------------------------------- Kenepuru construction closures - Monday 9 February From Monday 9 February until 12pm on Friday 24 April there are likely to be construction closures in the Kenepuru on the below days and times:
Outside of these times stop/go traffic management will be in place with delays of up to 15 minutes. During the opening times, traffic management will ensure vehicles do not get stuck between closure points. French Pass |
||

On Croisilles Road, approximately 4.2km before the Hope Drive/Wharf Road intersection crews are recommencing the drilling and grouting of permanent anchors on Monday 12 January. Crews are completing minor drainage repairs approximately 1km before Okiwi Bay commencing on Tuesday 13 January. --------------------------------------------------- On Croisilles-French Pass Road approximately 2km past Okiwi Bay, pavement preparation works will commence on Monday 12 January. --------------------------------------------------- All three sites in the French Pass will be under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

Kenepuru |
||
|
On Moetapu Bay Road, approximately 1.3km from the start of the road, work will resume on Monday 12 January, when the crew will replace three culverts at this site. At four adjacent sites approximately 3km before the Mahau Road turn-off, crews will resume works on Monday 12 January to complete the pavements, and remaining drainage repairs. On Kenepuru Road, between the Mahau Road intersection and Te Mahia Bay, works are scheduled to resume on Monday 26 January to install another culvert, and construct the pavements. On Kenepuru Road, near Portage Bay, approximately 1.5km prior to Portage Resort, crews will resume work on Monday 12 January to continue excavation, gully backfill, and drainage installation. On Torea Road, crews will resume work on Monday 12 January to continue the road retreat. --------------------------------------------------- All sites recommencing in January will be under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

On Port Underwood Road, approximately 1.5km past McCormicks Road when travelling East crews will resume construction of a retaining wall on Monday 12 January. This site will be under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

On Mahakipawa Hill Road, approximately 4.2km from Havelock work will resume on Monday 12 January to install a second culvert under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

On Archers Road, approximately 2km from the start of the road, crews will resume work on Monday 12 January to install a culvert. This site will be under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

Kenepuru Road restrictions |
||
|
Kenepuru Road is open to the public, with overweight and overlength vehicle restrictions in place. Reduced speed limit signage and temporary traffic lights are in place at Portage Heights and approximately 500m beyond Nikau Cove (when travelling from Portage). Both sites have a 30km temporary speed limit in place. Please expect minor delays and follow all traffic management signage. Vehicle restrictions remain on Kenepuru Road from Linkwater to the Heads as follows: Vehicle RestrictionsVehicles up to 12.6m in length, and 6 tonne in weight can travel on Kenepuru Road and side roads. To apply for a permit for an over dimension vehicle to travel on Kenepuru Road, email recovery@marlboroughroads.com or call 0800 213 213. There are the following hazards on this section of Kenepuru Road and its side roads including Moetapu Bay Road:
Other recovery roadsPlease be aware that on all roads, works may be in progress and/or traffic management in place. Please expect delays and follow all signage and traffic management. Heavy rain may lead to roads being closed at short notice. Regardless of the status of the road, please drive to the conditions.
