Using Transport Insights, each RCA can compare the state of their roads to other roads across the country. The goal is that investment is directed to where it is needed most, benefiting road users.
Last month Transport Insights was updated to open access. This means that anyone can download, copy and share any of the data without barriers.

This survey included an indicative decision from RCAs to participate in this model. Thank you to the RCAs who responded, we received an overwhelmingly positive response to the proposed changes, acknowledging key technical and funding decisions are still to be confirmed. A Request for Information (RFI) was also sent to existing NZ data collection suppliers to understand how the market can successfully deliver the national data collection programme, identify technology solutions that can meet the proposed requirements, and gauge the level of interest from potential suppliers to participate in future contracts. Respondents generously provided an insightful breakdown of their existing knowledge and experience, and demonstrated a strong ability and willingness of the market to deliver the automated condition data collection requirements. ‘Using hands-on resources including chocolates and building blocks, it was great to see the lightbulb moments people had when it comes to thinking about how the planning decisions we make in our AMPs will influence wellbeing in our communities.’ The LoS project outcomes are aligned with the expectations set in the original Road Maintenance Task Force recommendations and the One Network Framework. ‘The Te Ringa Maimoa Learning and Development programme delivers 70 workshops a year to over 1,300 members of the transport sector from local councils, regional councils, Department of Conservation and Waka Kotahi staff,’ says Roger Brady, System Manager Bay of Plenty and Te Ringa Maimoa Sector Excellence work group chair. ‘We continually measure the effectiveness of the programme – the evidence speaks for itself.’ |
