Building Hope, Together Since the 2018 Lombok earthquakes, our community of supporters has helped rebuild over 40 sustainable, earthquake-resistant schools, creating safe, inspiring classrooms for children across Lombok. It’s an incredible milestone, but the real story goes beyond the numbers. What we’re seeing and feeling in these schools is powerful. Children are stepping into classrooms where they finally feel safe, proud, and full of hope for their future. Thanks to a generous pledge from The Phillips Foundation, we’ve been able to go deeper and measure the impact of this change through a five-year study with The University of Adelaide. This research combines data and stories to show how Block Schools are transforming lives, boosting children’s resilience, hope, life satisfaction, and connection to nature. It’s the first study of its kind for our work, and the early results are already showing what we’ve always known: when children learn in safe, beautiful classrooms, hope grows. First Year Results & Insights We used Non-Block Classrooms as a control group to measure the true impact of Block Classrooms. This approach helps us see the difference they make, remove bias, and gather solid evidence to guide our future programs.
Building Connections & Capacity: Our Week in New YorkThis September, Classroom of Hope had the incredible opportunity to expand our learning, deepen our networks, and explore new ways to grow our impact and strengthen our work in the communities we serve. Thanks to the generous support of The Phillips Foundation, who invests in our capacity building and fundraising efforts, we attended a series of events in New York during Climate Week, learning from global leaders, change-makers, and organisations committed to building a better future for children, families, and communities around the world.
Crossing Channels & Creating Change: Jimmy’s Story Last year, Perth swimmer Jimmy Clothier and his teammates from the Bears of Brine took on the incredible challenge of swimming the English Channel, pushing through icy waters, mental endurance, and years of training, all for a purpose bigger than themselves. Their effort raised $134,000 for Classroom of Hope, supporting the construction of sustainable, earthquake-resistant Block Schools in Lombok, and Jimmy shared his journey with the Australian Financial Review, reflecting on the grit, teamwork, and hope behind each stroke. |
