Transition of GP Services in East Riding of Yorkshire

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is transitioning GP services at Market Weighton Practice, King Street Medical Centre in Cottingham, and Humber Primary Care in Bridlington to new providers due to changes in the national primary care model. Patients do not need to take any action at this time.

The decision is driven by ICB-led initiatives to support joined-up neighbourhood care, shifting services from hospitals to community settings to improve funding pathways and enhance services for our communities and patients.

26 Graduates from the 2024-25 Humber NHS Cadets Programme!

We’re thrilled to share that 26 young people successfully graduated our 2024-25 Humber NHS Cadets Programme!

The Humber NHS Cadet Programme, funded by NHS England and delivered in partnership with St John Ambulance, offers young people aged 14–18 a fantastic opportunity to explore careers in the NHS. Through a mix of hands-on experiences, employability skills development, and vital life-saving first aid training, the programme helps inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.

This year, we were proud to see so many of our own staff involved—from our Work Experience Team to our Children’s Occupational Therapy Team. Their support has been invaluable in showcasing the wide range of roles available within the NHS and helping young people see a future for themselves within our organisation.

We are placing the patient voice at the heart of Mental Health care

Mental Health care, particularly in our inpatient units, is being revolutionised by listening to and incorporating the patient’s perspective throughout their care. The Culture of Care programme has been adopted by four of the wards at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. It focuses on three main pillars which are at the heart of how we provide care: trauma-informed, autism-aware and anti-racist. To achieve these aims, the patient’s voice is placed at the centre of our care planning and delivery.

On 15 May 2025, we held our first Culture of Care Celebration event to share the incredible progress already made and how the programme is supporting patients and staff to mutually achieve better outcomes. Read more about the celebration event.

Keeping Children Safe: Why Immunisations Are Important

Across the country, fewer children have had all their immunisations since the COVID-19 pandemic. This means illnesses like measles and whooping cough, which we haven’t seen much in recent years, are on the rise. Immunisations help protect children from serious illnesses. They teach the body how to fight off diseases and stop them from spreading to others. Getting your child immunised on time is one of the best ways to keep them healthy.

Stefanie, Hull 0-19 Modern Matron, says:
“Immunisations play an important role to help protect our children and young people from disease and serious illnesses. We want to make sure that families and young people have access accurate information about the national immunisation programme and encourage families to reach out and speak to a health professional at any age and stage of their child’s life. It is never too late to catch up on missed immunisations to protect children and young people.”

Parents and carers should check their child’s red book or speak to their GP to make sure their child has had all the right immunisations.

Children start getting immunisations at just 8 weeks old. More are given at different ages, including boosters before school.

For school-aged children, Vaccination UK gives the flu vaccine and other important immunisations in school.

Immunising every child helps keep our schools and communities safe. If you have questions, contact your local health visiting or school nursing team:

Trust Charity Golf Day Raises Over £7,700 to Create Better Days for Patients

It was smiles all round at the Malton and Norton Golf Club as 14 teams came together on 1 May 2025 for the Health Stars Golf Day.

The day was all about raising money for the Better Days Appeal, which aims to transform a space on the Fitzwilliam Ward at Malton Hospital into a dementia friendly day room.

A big congratulations to the winning team, Countrywide, who took first place, with Dixon Group coming second and JLES Group Ltd in third. The competition was close, but the spirit of the day was all about having fun and making a difference.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who played, donated, and supported us – especially our brilliant sponsors, with a special shout-out to our headline sponsor Humber Projects. Malton and Norton Golf Club were fantastic hosts, and the course looked amazing all day.

Health Stars Charity Manager Anita Green said:

“Thank you to everyone who took part in the Golf Day, either as a player or a sponsor. It was great to see so many people having fun whilst raising money for Health Stars. Thanks to all the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust staff who played, we’re so grateful for your support.”

The event raised over £7,700 which will go directly towards creating a more comfortable and supportive space for people on the Fitzwilliam Ward.
