BB New Zealand Communication Kia ora As a life long surfer, I can't say July is my favorite month of the year, it is the coldest and most uninviting time to enter the water! However, there are still some pristine days mid winter and with a good wetsuit, it is enjoyable once you get your clothes off and get into what is sometimes a wet wetsuit!!! Don't feel sorry for me though, spare a thought for our Stage 1 and Stage 2 NLDC young men who brave the sub zero temperatures at Nelson Lakes and spend nights out in the cold to achieve their Queens Award and so much more. On returning from NLDC, there are so many aspects of the course that are worthy of mention, that a follow up will be done next month which will include some stunning photos. Stay Sure & Stedfast - Hebrews 6:19 Meanwhile there is plenty of content in this Bugle to catch up on, which is a testament to the industrious nature of the BB movement and the exciting objective we strive for, "The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys' and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true, Christian manliness." National Child Protection Roadshow (CPR) Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend the Child Protection Roadshows held over the months of May and June this year. We are most grateful for the generosity of the many churches who hosted us around the country from the very deep South of Invercargill to the top of Coromandel Peninsular in the North! Many thanks to Malcolm & Linda Bayliss from Mallinbay Consultants who facilitated the seminars and kept up with our fairly arduous schedule. We held 17 seminars in 16 different locations with 155 attendees across the country and presented many aspects of child protection to support and assist our leaders, volunteers and helpers. We are in the process of rolling out a Health & Safety platform called Safety Seek. It will give Leaders of our units across the country access to the Child Protection Policy and many other useful initiatives. These include, but are not limited to: Policies, Procedures, RAMS Form Templates, Accident & Incident Reporting, Hazard Registers and Document Storage. Thank you for your patience waiting for this to be rolled out, an email to the leaders with more details and access will be sent in the next couple of weeks. Warkworth Laying up of the ColoursIn June I was invited to speak at the laying-up of the Company Colours for 1st Warkworth. I had the pleasure of meeting David Parker and many other past members of the movement. The event was covered in the local paper and a transcript follows.Service Reunites Boys Brigade It was a nostalgic evening for some 60 former members of the 1st Warkworth Company of the Boys Brigade at the reunion in Warkworth on June 10 2022. The group operated in Warkworth for 65 years and is now in recess due to a shortage of leaders . A special service in the Methodist Church saw the laying-up of the Company Colours, followed by a reunion supper. Former members came from as far away as Queenstown and Whanarei. The guest speaker was none other than our own BB New Zealand National Director Mike Brewer. A new Mahurangi BB ICONZ group for boys aged 6 to 17 years has been formed in Snells Beach. The reunion also marked youth leader David Parker's retirement. Parker has served both in Warkworth and the Cook Islands where he was a volunteer training officer. "During those 48 years part-time on either Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu or Mangaia, I was able to promote habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline and Self-Respect," Parker says. "In turn, they taught me a lot about life on isolated islands and the difficulties they experienced in isolation." Parker was responsible for shipping thousands of dollars worth of donated brass band instruments, uniforms and teaching aids to the Cook Islands. Mike Brewer & David Parker TributeWe pass on our condolences to Dorothy Marsters and family at the passing of Jim who was a leader for BB in Hamilton for many years. May he rest sure and stedfast in the presence of our blessed hope Jesus Christ.Vacancies: Assistant Manager Waipara Adventure Centre North Canterbury Te ahumahi ā- řehia Apprentice Outdoors Canterbury/West Coast Battalion Drill Competition Saturday 10 September 2022 Vacancies: Edge Workshop Area Facilitator Auckland & Central Otago Part Time Administrator Auckland Researchers at the University of Canterbury are conducting a study on self-esteem development.
