New SH18 onramp moves into its final phase

In early August, drivers travelling on the SH18 westbound onramp may have noticed a slight lane layout shift as we moved into the final phase of work in this area.

Work over the coming months will include the removal of temporary works, construction of safety barriers, installation of streetlights as well as completing the shared path and landscaping. This is expected to be finished in November.

Due to the constrained working environment, construction of the new onramp has been undertaken in three stages enabling the majority of works to be carried out during the day and ensuring that the road could remain open throughout, reducing the impact on the Auckland motorway network.

Lanes set to change southbound on the Northern Motorway

Waka Kotahi is advising drivers to be aware of lane layout changes on SH1 southbound starting in early-mid September.

The changes will be put in place during an overnight shift which will require a full closure of State Highway 1 southbound between Greville Road and Constellation Drive while temporary traffic management is removed from the road. During the night of preparation work, a detour will be in place via Hugh Green Drive.

Once completed and the road is open, there will be an additional lane open southbound between Greville Road onramp and Constellation Drive offramp. Drivers are advised to be patient while everyone adjusts to the new layout over the following few weeks.

We’ll keep you updated once the date has been confirmed so you can plan ahead.

All aboard! Next generation of quantity surveyors visit site

A group of third year Massey University quantity surveying students visited site this month to find out more about what’s been happening in the area.

With their Albany campus close by, they have watched progress over the years and the tour provided the opportunity for an exclusive drive through site and talk from the construction team along the way.

“It was great to be able to take the next generation of quantity surveyors on site for a tour and we hope that it’s fuelled their passion for construction as they start their career,” says John Robson, Waka Kotahi Project Manager.

Lecturer Ravindu Kahandawa also sent a message of thanks, saying “it was a great experience for the teaching team and students. Our students were very interested in seeing a civil construction project that is very near and dear to them. They got to learn about different technologies and construction methods used in civil work and how to deal with actual problems like live traffic control, method of fixing precast panels horizontally and the impact of details of excavation project.”

What improvement has the Northern Busway extension made for travel on the North Shore?

Delivered as part of the project, the Northern Busway extension between Constellation Station and Albany Station opened in May. We recently caught up with locals to find out what’s great about the busway and how its improved their travel around Auckland.
