Grammar Foundations

The Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) is offering Grammar Foundations, a program designed to review key grammar points and provide tips and strategies for effective grammar use in academic writing contexts.

Virtual sessions via MS Teams will be held on Fridays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Distinguished Speaker Series - Big OLAP Data Cube Compression Algorithms in Column-Oriented Cloud/Edge Data Infrastructures

Big data is gaining momentum in the research community, due to the several challenges posed by managing such kind of data. Big data are relevant not only in the academic context, but also in the industrial context, where they play the major role.

Event will be held on Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 5345 Herzberg Laboratories. RSVP here!

Awards and Funding Updates

The 2024-2025 Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship application for an outstanding international student from an African country is available. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1, 2025. For details, click here. 

Donor-Funded Awards – Fall 2024 competition deadline is Oct. 4, 2024 at 12 a.m. Midnight EST (e.g. You must submit prior to Oct. 3, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.).

Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master’s Program (CGSM – Deadline to apply is Dec. 1, 2024 before 8 p.m. EST

Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) – Deadline to apply is Nov. 19, 2024 at 12 a.m. Midnight EST. Referee deadline is Dec. 1, 2024.

TEACHING ASSISTANTS (TA) OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Pedagogical Training
All TAs have access to five hours of pedagogical training. You are strongly encouraged to complete this training as to gain important skills for your role as a TA at Carleton. Training must be completed during the term(s) in which the student is working as a TA and must be completed before the deadline, Nov. 30 for a fall-only TAship, and March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship. Update Your TA Profile!
All Priority Teaching Assistants (TA) can update their TA Profile immediately after accepting their TA award through the

English PhD Candidate Archiving the Women's Movement

A fifth-year doctoral candidate in English, Meghan Tibbits-Lamirande researches the relationship between militant protest tactics and the radical media, broadly defined, throughout the U.S. War in Vietnam. She reads activist performances, such as Alice Herz’s 1965 act of self-immolation, as expressions of political knowledge premised on activists’ refusal to engage with state-sanctioned codes of public discourse. Anti-war protest actions such as Herz’s repudiated biopower’s right “to make live and to let die.”
