Merry Christmas from the Loop Road project team

Since construction began in March, the project team have moved 38,000 cubic metres of earth, installed 1km of drainage, laid 75 metres of concrete box culvert, driven over 500 concrete piles into the ground and have worked 35,000 hours on site.

The team are now taking a well-earned break for Christmas and will be returning to work on Monday 6 January. Please be aware that the temporary speed limits remain in place over the holiday period and we ask you to take extra care as you travel through the construction site.

We wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable summer holiday.

Roundabout to be increased to two lanes

The future expansion of the single-lane roundabout at Loop Road has been brought forward and will be delivered as part of the current project.

Assessment of future traffic growth in the region has identified the need to deliver the dual-laning of the roundabout now, to increase the safety benefits and improve the efficiency of this important freight link.

Customers have been seeking a dual-lane roundabout for many years, however the bridge near Oaks Road creates a challenge to merge traffic safely back into a single southbound lane.

As part of the additional dual-laning of the roundabout, a second bridge will be built alongside the existing bridge to accommodate two lanes of southbound traffic.

State highway traffic will merge back into a single southbound lane prior to the upgraded Portland Road intersection.

Additional earthworks and concrete piles to future proof for a dual-lane roundabout were completed earlier this year.

Design work for the additional road widening and new bridge will get underway in the new year. We will share more information with you as it becomes available.
