Click here December 31, 2021 DOJ Announcement More Than $125 Million in Grants Under the STOP School Violence Act On Thursday, December 23, 2021, the Department of Justice announced nearly $125 million in funding to advance school safety under the STOP School Violence Act. The grants, awarded by the Office of Justice Program’s (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), will help institute safety measures in and around primary and secondary schools, support school violence-prevention efforts, provide training to school personnel and students, and implement evidence-based threat assessments. OJP Department of Justice Awards More Than $12 Million to Support Data Sharing On Thursday, December 23, 2021, the Office of Justice Programs announced grants totaling more than $12 million to support data and information sharing across law enforcement agencies to reduce crime and make communities safer. Grants from OJP’s Bureau of Justice Assistance, Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Institute of Justice, and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention distributed millions of dollars in awards to local, state, and tribal jurisdictions throughout the United States and territories. The announcement includes a comprehensive list of each of these awards. Virtual Forum 2022 Firearm and Toolmarks Policy and Practice Hosted by the National Institute of Justice and the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence (FTCoE), this four-day virtual forum will explore new developments, discuss the foundations of firearm and toolmark examination, and address the implementation of new technologies into workflows. In addition, the forum will inform firearm and toolmark examiners on the legal issues surrounding firearm testimony and recent court decisions. This forum is expected to convene several hundred criminal justice practitioners representing federal, state, and local agencies as well as subject-matter experts from across the United States through a no-cost, online format. The presenters will focus on what an investigator's mindset should be, how to understand targets, and how to devise and execute plans to gain evidence, resulting in successful investigations and prosecutions.
