Petone to Melling construction update - underpass installation at Labour Day long weekend.

Over Labour Day long weekend from Thursday 22 October to Tuesday 27 October, we will be working day and night shifts to build the project's northern rail underpass beneath the rail near Parliament Street.

We had planned to build this underpass at Easter, but the work was postponed due to the COVID-19 Alert Level 4 lockdown.

To complete this work, Parliament Street will be closed, with a detour in place on Laery Street. Some parking in the area will be temporarily restricted. Access for residents will be maintained, and businesses will be able to open as usual.

We’re working over a long weekend to minimise disruption to train commuters. On Friday 23 October, and on Tuesday 27 October buses will replace all trains on the Melling Line while the works are completed. For more information please visit the Metlink website.

Our crews will be working day and night from Thursday evening to Tuesday evening to complete the new underpass and reopen the rail line on Wednesday. We acknowledge that this type of work can cause disruption, especially during holidays and weekends. Thank you for your patience.
