Construction update | He pānui

Kia ora

We hope you enjoyed a restorative summer break and have returned refreshed and prepared for the year ahead.

Our team began the year with a full-day workshop designed to refocus and align our efforts and ensure that we are delivering projects safely and efficiently. A central theme of this session was the importance of 'pushing pause' and reassessing any situation that appears potentially problematic. Above all, our primary objective remains to ensure the safety and well-being of the team, with the expectation that everyone returns home safely each day.

During the months of December and January, the team made great progress on several key project elements and the final layer of asphalt was successfully laid last week. Further, over the past two months, we have installed a substantial amount of utility cabling, erected the majority of traffic poles, and completed the widening of the northbound off-ramp, including the installation of traffic islands and kerbs. All these operations were done during nighttime hours to minimise the disruption to motorists.

Later this month, the team will install the remaining traffic light poles, along with the necessary cable connections for the traffic signals.  We will also complete the final line marking on the road surface.  Pending final checks and approvals, the traffic lights are scheduled to 'go live' by the end of February.

The photo above shows rollers compacting newly laid asphalt on Mill Road near the BP at the Bombay service centre.

The photos below show some of our other key activities over the past two months since our last update.

Looking ahead | E haere ake nei

The end of this month will see the new traffic lights in operation. Following this will be minor landscaping and grass seeding taking place. In March, the long-life line markings on the road surface will be applied.
