Click here Happy Holidays!Happy holidays!Christmas is just days away and holidaymakers have started to hit the road or take to the skies for a break on our Coral Coast and beyond. And while they’re sure to get a warm welcome in every sense of the word, the communities of Exmouth, Carnarvon, Onslow and Coral Bay already have their eyes on the next school holidays! The Solar Eclipse in April 2023 will attract an unprecedented number of visitors to the region and preparations are well underway. We wish you a very happy and safe summer holiday season and – if you’re thinking you’d like to be close to the action for the Solar Eclipse next April, take the opportunity to start planning! Experience TotalityPlans are progressing on an eclipse viewing site to provide a total eclipse experience. This ticketed venue will have capacity for over 3,000 people and, as it is in the line of totality, will be a great option to witness the total solar eclipse from start to finish. More details will be provided in the New Year, including how to book a ticket. Accommodation is availableWith Exmouth, Carnarvon and Onslow opening their arms to the world, accommodation of all types is in strong demand. Options include hotel and short-term residential accommodation, caravan parks and campsites – and even residential yard sites for fully self-contained caravaners. So, keep an eye on the sites listed below and make direct contact with providers to see what options and prices might apply. You can find more information on local accommodation and arrangements online at the Shire of Exmouth, Carnarvon Visitors Centre, and the Shire of Ashburton. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DCBA) has some good advice for campers, and you can expect regular updates right through to April 2023. Pinhole Camera Competition WinnersEarlier this year a competition to design the artwork for a pinhole solar eclipse viewer ran across WA primary schools. This month the five winning entries were visited by Chief Astronomer, Rick Tonello, from the Gravity Discovery Centre Observatory. Each winner learnt more about the Solar Eclipse and safety when observing a total and partial solar eclipse. We congratulate the lucky winners from:
The Gravity Discovery Centre Observatory are also working on a series of live stream broadcasts of the Solar Eclipse to ensure no one misses out.
