Western Business Leaders - Invest in the West Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual 'Western Business Leaders - Invest in the West' event. This year we focused in on Woodville, hearing from those committed to the revitalisation and investment opportunities around Woodville Road. The full house breakfast event was hosted in the historic Woodville Town Hall, with catering by Westside Lunch & Coffee Bar, and barista coffee from Cirelli Coffee Roastery & Cafe. Western Work in the Care Sector Forum Thank you to everyone who joined us for our ‘Western Work in the Care Sector Forum’, in collaboration with Workforce Australia Local Jobs - Adelaide North. Woodville Road Streetscape Upgrade Opening Earlier this month, council celebrated the completion of the Woodville Road Streetscape Upgrade, which commenced in September 2022. The result is a roadway with improved traffic flow and safety for all users, alongside a significantly enhanced aesthetic appeal. Nominate your Westfield Local Hero Do you know someone who is a changemaker, a life saver, a volunteer, or a community leader? Or someone who goes above and beyond to make a positive impact to their local community? Nominate them today for a 2024 Westfield Local Heroes grant. Westfield Local Heroes is a recognition and awards program that shines the spotlight on individuals in Australia and New Zealand who make a positive impact to their local community. Community members nominate their heroes and we select three finalists for each Westfield centre to go through to a community vote. The successful heroes are awarded a $20,000 grant for the organisation they represent, and the finalists receive a $5,000 grant for their organisation. Nominations for 2024 Westfield Local Heroes are now open and close Monday 18 March 2024. Shine Hub Council is committed to reducing our carbon emissions and have invested in solar for our facilities and declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. While all of this helps, we have also identified a way to assist our community to choose renewables as an alternative, further reducing the energy load as well as household budgets. Partnering with ShineHub, we are excited to offer Charles Sturt residents and businesses the chance to be part of our 2024 Solar Bulk Buy, a community renewables program. Most recently residents of City of Mitcham have taken part in this program with great success. Learn more about the program below. Pathways in the arts industry – Praxis Artist in Residence Artist in residency programs provide an opportunity for artists to thrive in the highly competitive arts industry. Residency programs usually culminate in an exhibition providing access to new audiences, increase exposure and opportunities to sell their work. Praxis Artspace Gallery and Studios located in Bowden is securely embedded in the arts community and ecology of the
contemporary art scene in SA. Praxis have been offering an artist in residence to a new visual arts graduate since 2017 enabling artists to be seen in SA and worldwide. This bright mural was funded by an Arts and Culture Program Grant. Creating a thriving Western Adelaide is dependent on a resilient business community. Entrepreneurship Scholarship 2024 Intake A great way to further develop your skills and get advice is through a mentor and entrepreneur program. Our Council provides scholarships to residents to participate in two entrepreneurial programs run by Business SA. Applications are now open for the April 2024 intake of the SAYES and Encore programs. Small Business Week The South Australian Government will be presenting Small Business Week 2024, a week of events, workshops and information sessions to help you strengthen and grow your small business. The theme of the week is ‘helping you get on with business’, with a program designed around useful topics that we know small businesses are interested in.
