The Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency project to deliver safety improvements on State Highway 2 between College Road and Silverstream Station in Central Hawke’s Bay is on the homestretch.

The project, which is funded by the regional package of the New Zealand Upgrade Programme, involves realigning the 1.7km stretch of road by easing its curves, incorporating a new southbound passing lane, wider shoulders, median and side barriers, as well as a right turn bay into College Road.

The road realignment, including a new southbound passing lane, will be complete before Christmas. In early 2023, our contractor will return to install flexible median barrier.

Realigning the road improves the safety of this key freight route connecting Hawke’s Bay and Manawatū and provides safer passing opportunities.

The realignment also improves the connection to Napier Port and supports regional economic growth by improving the movement of people and goods along the route.

Waka Kotahi thanks road users for their patience while we finish making this important safety improvement to SH2.
