A big win for community health in WA The Cook Government’s major amendments to WA’s tobacco laws have passed Parliament – a big step in protecting young people and strengthening public health. These reforms introduce tougher penalties for illegal tobacco and vapes, new powers to shut down non-compliant businesses and faster,
more coordinated enforcement.

Better planning, better health The new national physical activity and sleep guidelines are here. And yes, getting 30+ minutes of physical activity most days, alongside 7–9 hours of sleep, delivers major health benefits. What you might not know is that our neighbourhoods play a crucial role in helping people meet these guidelines. Healthway is working to reshape communities so healthy habits are easier to build into everyday life. Good planning makes the difference, by building homes closer to services to support active travel and connection, limiting licences for harmful products and growing food locally to improve access to healthy, affordable options.
