New waste reforms summary from Resources and Waste forums

Following the government’s announcement on new waste reforms a special Local Authority and Waste Management session took place on 24 October and a special Business Readiness Forum was convened on 26 October to share further details.

Here is a summary of both sessions including answers to the questions asked by attendees. Any outstanding questions we will continue to provide answers in future editions of the newsletter.

On 21 October 2023 the government announced three new waste reforms:

  • Introduction of Simpler Recycling waste collections including the government response to the 2021 consultation, and two further consultations on additional policies related to Simpler Recycling (England only). Click here to read our summary.
  • Reform of the waste Carrier, Broker and Dealer regime (England only). Click here to read our summary.
  • Introduction of Digital Waste Tracking (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales). Click here to read our summary.

Taken together, these reforms will help to minimise waste, improve recycling rates and crack down on waste crime.
