Three of our local schools are in the running for the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Award 2020. Whether they win or not – we think they’re absolute champions! ![]() Backyard blitz for local hostelMembers of our Environment and Climate Change team recently joined forces with a local community garden group to help revitalise the gardens of Biala Girls Hostel in Allambie Heights. The hostel gives Indigenous girls from rural NSW the opportunity to receive a high school education at a Sydney school.![]() Help conserve our wildlifeThe NSW government is asking the community to participate in a survey that will help them better understand the impact of recent bushfires on our precious wildlife. It seeks to understand the distribution of wildlife across NSW, including animals such as the common brushtail possum and echidnas. Grants boost eco-initiativesThirteen worthy recipients received grants for environmental projects including solar installations at surf and bowling clubs, a support program for endangered species and community garden and bush regeneration activities. A total of $280,000 was awarded overall in our Community Grants program. Remediating our beachesThe east coast lows earlier this year caused damage to a number of our beaches. Remediation work involved beach scraping at Newport, where sand is pushed up the beach to accelerate dune recovery. Geotextile sandbags and planting were used at Fisherman's Beach, Collaroy to help remediate the foredune and repair an access walkway. ![]() Record your fox sightingsFoxes are widespread throughout NSW and pose a major threat to native animals and livestock.
