Tuia a Ranginui e tū iho nei,
Tuia a Papatūānuku e takoto ake nei,
Tuia i runga, tuia i raro, tuia i roto, tuia i waho,

It has been a challenging two or three years for many of us. We do our best to understand how difficult it is for you, the content creators, trying to hold things together in the face of the challenges and uncertainty that have beset our world, but ultimately, we are doing so from the comfort of an office in Wellington, or more often these days, from our home offices. We appreciate our privileged position and are committed to ensuring your voices are heard, your challenges understood and responded to.

I would like to thank the sector for another very successful year. From a Te Māngai Pāho point of view there has been many highlights. We congratulate all those who had success at the recent Aotearoa Music Awards and NZTV Awards. It was really encouraging to see the number of Māori nominees and initiatives in both sets of Awards, many of whom we had provided support to.  We thank all of our funded entities for their commitment and dedication to te reo Māori, te ao Māori and Māori media.

This year has definitely stretched our relatively small dedicated team and I thank them for all of their hard work. When we did the math for our final Board Meeting of the year, we realised just how much work our team had undertaken in the calendar year: administered 46 contestable and direct funding rounds, assessed over 400 funding applications, managed  a total of 356 contracts, and approved just on 800 milestones. We thank those of you who have taken the time to submit funding applications, our assessors who have lent their expertise, and our Board for supporting us in all our work.

Next year will hopefully reveal the shape of the entities in the media sector. We look forward to Te Matatini in February and the second celebration of Matariki as a national holiday on 14 July, as well as all the exciting new content, music and audio that the new year will bring. In the meantime, from all of us here at Te Māngai Pāho, Board and staff, we would like to wish you and your whānau a safe and relaxing holiday, a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Mauriora!
