New Smartcane BMP modules are here to help
Sustainable practices pay off—they help your business by boosting efficiency and yield, and they’re great for the environment too. And best practice farming methods are the foundation of these sustainable practices that will improve water quality – but you don’t have to figure it out on your own. The Smartcane BMP modules have just been updated, so whether you are starting your accreditation from scratch or just need a refresher, it’s a great time to check out the program.
As new growth starts springing up, it’s a great time to complete the SRA weed survey. Complete it by 30 September and you can enter the draw to win a drum of NuFarm Dropzone. And if that makes you realise you need a new approach to your weed control, head to the CaneRise website for tools and resources all about pests, weeds and diseases.

Like the Going the Distance Project with Farmacist who are working with the QLD Department of Environment and Science to deliver the project over the next two cropping seasons. From cotton picker to high-rise sprayer – Ron debuts his new tool
Farmers are well known as innovators, and Sarina grower Ron Gurnett is no exception. He is ready for his new and improved sprayer, which he retrofitted from a former cotton picker with second-hand and specialised parts, to hit the paddocks. He now has greater flexibility and efficiency for spraying over his 180 hectares of farmland.
“It’ll do seven rows inter-space and eight rows over the top… instead of using the little tractor, getting to use something that covers a bit more ground quicker.”
