New bridge for SH25 Boundary CreekState Highway 25 (SH25) reopens on Wednesday morning at 5am, following the installation of a new bridge deck at Boundary Creek on the Thames Coast. Our contractors worked extended hours during the 7-day road closure over the past week to get the job done. With the weather on their side, they were able to complete more work than planned, meaning less disruption for traffic once the road reopens. The road will reopen initially as a single lane under stop/go. By next Monday 10 November people will be using both lanes and the passing bay to the south of the bridge, meaning smoother traffic flows for everyone. Some minor finishing work will continue, but this won’t affect people travelling. After 2 weeks of work beneath the bridge repairing and strengthening the bridge supports (abutments), the road was closed early last Wednesday so the old deck could be removed and a new one installed. By late Sunday night the new bridge deck was in place and its top coat of asphalt laid. Our contractors will spend the last 2 days of the closure installing bridge expansion joints and crash barriers, and completing road markings. The series of pictures below show progress across the week-long closure. |
