Works in progress

We’re putting in road marking between Ihakara St and the Otaihanga roundabout, as well as constructing a pedestrian refuge in the centre of the road just south of the Waikanae Bridge. These works mean stop/go traffic management may be operating at times.

From the bridge to New World Waikanae, works on the centre islands and Elizabeth Street traffic lights continue during the day. At night, road resurfacing between the Te Moana and Ngaio Road intersections is scheduled over the next three weeks, with stop/go traffic management in place.

Please take care as you drive through these areas.

Waikanae Bridge pedestrian/cycleway

Some design changes mean we’ve had to reschedule the installation of the bridge structure that will form a new pathway over the Waikanae River for pedestrians and cyclists. This is likely to take place from late-November to mid-December, but we’ll confirm timing with you next month.

Meanwhile, we've made progress on other works to enable the pathway to be built, including:

• installing the support structure that goes underneath the pathway, as well as the abutments at either end of that structure
• assembling the new bridge deck off-site ahead of its installation
• pre-drilling holes for the new safety barrier plates along the existing footpath.

Retaining walls on the abutments will be constructed later this month.
